As students progress through middle school and high school, counselors assist with goal-setting activities and career exploration. At JFK, students utilize Naviance to note academic, career, and social goals, as well as to explore career information.
At EHS, counselors support students as they decide between a variety of post-secondary opportunities including the following: 4-year colleges, 2-year colleges, technical and trade schools, the military, employment, a gap year, and additional options. Throughout each year, representatives from 4-year colleges, CT State Community colleges, and multiple branches of the US Military come to visit and speak with students during information sessions. The ASVAB is also offered in the fall and spring semesters each year to provide students the opportunity to learn more about potential career options available within the military.
Students continue to use Naviance for goal-setting activities and career information while also using the program for post-secondary planning and the college application process. The predominant online application students use is the CommonApplication. The CommonApp links with Naviance which allows for the electronic submission of supplemental application materials such as transcripts, the school profile, and recommendations. Student should speak with their counselor for questions and information about these resources. Additional application resources are also listed below.
