Culinary Essentials  (½ credit)

 Course Description
            Students develop basic cooking skills and focus on food preparation techniques and baking terms.  Class members work cooperatively to plan and carry out a variety of experiences to apply what they have learned.  

Classroom Guidelines
ü  Follow all school rules
ü  Arrive to class on time
ü  Be prepared for class - always have a pen or pencil
ü  No vulgar or obscene language will be tolerated
ü  No outside food or drinks allowed in the classroom
ü  Be respectful of all classmates, teachers, & visitors

        Classwork should be submitted by due date in order to earn full credit. Should a student be absent, the assignment is due when he/she returns.  Points will be taken off for each day it is late.  After three days, late assignments will not be accepted. 

         Students will regularly be graded on class participation. 

         If the student has an excused absence, no points will be lost for participation.

 Lab Activities
         Students will be in the labs cooking approximately 2-3 days a week.

         These activities are a privilege earned by completing all written work that goes along with the current unit.

         Students who fail to follow all classroom sanitation, safety, and behavior policies will immediately be removed from all lab activities. These students will then be given alternative written assignments to complete on lab days.  

 Tests / Quizzes
         Tests / Quizzes will be given at the end of each chapter/unit. 

         Students are expected to take scheduled tests even if they are absent the day prior to the test.

         If a student is absent, arrangements must be made with the teacher to make up the test within three days, or the student will receive a grade of zero.

 Electronic Devices
         There will be no electronic devices in this classroom

         If you have one with you, it should never be seen or be heard!
